Smart Meter Installation Update
September 21, 2026
Dear Residents,
On June 19, 2026, Frisco West WCID of Denton County (the District) release communication that smart meters would be installed throughout the district. This project is underway with approximately 50% of service address completed. The District estimates that remaining meters will be installed before the end of the year.
AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) is a technology that allows the District to remotely read meters without the need for manual visits to each property. These meters transmit usage data directly to the District, eliminating the potential for human error. The AMR meter will have a customer portal that will allow for residents to review their usage and set up leak alerts by text and email notification. Additional information regarding customer portal will follow when all meters are converted.
What to expect the day your meter is changed out?
A tech will make customer contact and explain that water service will be interrupted for roughly 15-30 minutes. During this time, the tech will be recording the old meter information and installing the same size water meter at your service address. As part of the installation, the tech will flush the resident’s water line, if the outside faucet is accessible by the District. The tech will deliver a door tag to the service address’s front door, stating that meter has been changed out.
